The Income Tax Department (ITD) has networked its 170 offices in 60 cities across the country to facilitate anytime, anywhere filing and processing of returns. This would now pave the way for launching a National Data Centre by end of June this year.
According to Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) member J G Pendse, the project - TAXNET is a 240-crore rupee project will network all the 745 ITD offices in 510 cities across the country. Airtel Enterprise Services are implementing it in partnership with IBM, and the first phase is now over. He further said that the entire project would be completed by coming March-April.
