Ishmeet Singh, the first Voice of India champion in 2007 has died in a drowning accident in Maldives today. Ishmeet hailed from Ludhiana in Punjab.
A couple of months back I was invited in Guru Tegh Bahadur Insitute of Technology in Rajouri Gardens, New Delhi during their annual festival to be a judge of an event. That evening Ishmeet performed in front of the delirious college crowd. I remember him telling the crowd that it was his first live performance in Delhi.
More details surrounding his death are awaited.

OH MY GOD! How did this happen? Where did you get the news? I just switched on the TV and theer is still nothing. If this is true then this is a really really sad news. He was such a talented young singer. I am shocked!

Ishmeet was one of the most talented new generation singers in India today. He was very young too. It is such a tragedy to see him pass away like this. He rolled out his first album early this year. Very sad.

Its sad....I met him during the shoot of some reality show at Film City, goregaon studio (for star plus probably)...dat was some spl episode...shaan hosted the show and everyone performed shaan’s numbers...during rehearsals he seemed to be most serious amongst all....he never tried to play gallery like others...this is sad...when i told him i m from debojit’s town he tried to speak bengali with me...I told him about amrik singh, the sardar who performs bengali shyamasangeet (Songs devoted to Kali Mata) in Kolkata and is a star in kolkata...and he was stunned to hear this....such a simple soul....

India has lost an immensely talented artist at a very early age. He was just 19 years old and had such a long and bright future in front of him. I still remember the euphoria amongst the Sikhs and all his fans when he won the Amul Voice of India contest in a tense final. Very sad loss to the country.

what can be said of such a tragedy. the guy was so full of promise.. every senior artist who is now speaking in the tv on his death are saying one common thing abt this young man. he was different and very humble.. he wasn't even twenty years of age :-(

Im really shocked i dont have any words to say, i thought it was a joke , but after checking the maldivian haveeru website and Dhivehioserver will tell us the story.But still i am in counfuse.. some websites says he was drowning in swimming pool others says on sea.. dont knw the reall story..very sad news ...may god gives strenght to his family .we will remember u.u will be in our hearts.

Shocked to see this news on IB home page, I wish his family, relatives, and fans to bear this irreparable loss with strength and may his soul rest in peace.

Instablogs gave this news even before the news channels started flashing it. His death is shrouded by mystery as of now...nobody knows why he went near the swimming pool and got drowned. Whatever it may be, he was really a gifted singer, and a pleasant personality. I was also shocked at the incident.

It is incredible that despite being a Sardar he was not into bhangra-pop or similar genre but mainstream Indian pop and Hindi movie music. This made him an extremely gifted man. It is an irreparable loss to the whole country.

Megha is the only one who noticed this, but he died a few months ago..not a few days or yesterday! The Singing sensation Ishmeet Singh died in June 2008. What is wrong with you Jonty?? This is stale news. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but don’t you watch news or read the paper? If someone has made a mistake you guys need to correct it, instead of blindly commenting without checking the date.

The death of the 19-year-old singer has been condoled by a number of state leaders and ministers including Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his predecessor Amarinder Singh, SAD President Sukhbir Badal and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal. Ishmeet, the winner of the reality show ’Voice of India 2007’ had gone to the Maldives on Friday for a stage show. He drowned in the hotel swimming pool on Tuesday evening.
