This is surely a welcome development but nothing more than a drop in the ocean, I’d add surely.
So far only one gold and one Bronze is not worth for a country of ”One Billion” and India is yet to show its obsession to win.

Well done Sushil. We are proud of you.

This should inspire the two medal hopes Jitender Kumar and Vijender Kumar in boxing today. This rare medal should prove to be inspiring for both of them.

The difference between Abhinav Bindra and Sushil Kumar is that Abhinav Bindra could afford to go out of the Indian sporting system because he is the son of a multi-millionaire and get himself world class training facilities. Sushil on the other hand comes from an average Indian family, trained in rudimentary facilities, studied in a Delhi government school and yet made us proud.
It shows not only the rich, but the poor can make it big if he has the determination to succeed.

I tend to disagree with you on this issue. It is not necessary at all times that facilities makes a champion. Hailing Sushil’s achievement as a great one, I seriously think that Bindra too achieved because of his determination. There are many other rich guys who participate in the Olympics but not all come out with medals.Your concentration during the event has to be optimum no matter ho well you are trained. At the end of it all, it is a great achievement for the country as now we can hope for some improvements related to sports other than cricket.

This should definitely prove to be an inspirational for the boxers today. I hope they just shrug the defeat of Akhil Kumar out of their minds and concentrate on their bouts today. They must not worry about winning or losing but just put their best performances and results will follow.

Great achievement! At least we managed to get 2 medals in our kitty.
Just today morning, while going thru TOI, I was discussing with my 8 yr old about the number of medals that all countries are bagging. I was bringing her attention to the number of gold medals of China, US, Uk and Australia and she shooed away my finger to search India’s score. But she frowned to see that we had only 1 gold...in all.
She also was curious to know tht y India cannot win more medals. I had a tough time to explain that many reasons like sponsors, right facilities, good coaches, funds and bad politics amount to our failure at global level....in spite of having gr8 talents.

Yes, needs to be applauded. But media should not create stories about medal winners to get TRPs and turn them into ad models. Please allow them to concentrate on their sport and focus on next games.
Hype and media attention can be distractive. Look at Sania Mirza...
