We, the South Asian nations are going to meet soon. No, sorry, our ‘leaders’ are meeting in Dhaka. It’s not just a meeting; it’s going to be a summit meeting! So we can see our PM along with other chief executives of the SAARC countries. Not all are as ‘good’ as our PM though. The list includes despots, autocrats, unpopular monarchs, dictators and everything else in-between.
We are serious about the meeting this time. Sorry again, our leaders are serious about the meeting this time. They have understood that the peoples of the SAARC countries are to be included in the agenda. Thanks to the initiative of our PM, we will see our leaders discussing disaster and poverty management. Poverty kills millions in our nations, disasters like the tsunami or the earthquake in Pak kills millions too, but the number is less than what poverty reaps every year. Poverty also begets rebellion. His Royal Highness King Gyanendra might not agree though that the Nepalese Maoists are a result of impoverished citizenry.
Anyway, at least they would be talking, instead of just ranting about useless issues like Kashmir, Ganga waters, dams etc. These all are things of the past - dead and overdue to be buried. Real issues affecting people must be addressed to. So we can all say, the notes are right about the SAARC summit this time. Noise of other issues into this will be cacophony.
