In an extraordinary gesture, India returned a Pakistani helicopter that landed on Indian territory at Udoosa, two km inside Kaman bridge. Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir, Abdus Subhan Lone said the chopper was allowed to return after an hour. Initial reports said it was carrying senior Pakistani and Russian officers. ‘’The reports turned out to be wrong. Now it is confirmed that they were journalists. The chopper was to land at Chakoti but landed inadvertantly at Udoosa'’, DIG Lone said.
This is an unheard of act between the two countries. A few years back Indian fighter jets shot down a Pakistani naval reconnaissance place - Atlantique - over Rann of Kutch killing all the passengers and crew. This led to an outcry on Pakistan who filed a case against India in The Hague unsuccessfully and relationship between the two plunged to a new depth.
The recent earthquake in Pakistan controlled Kashmir and adjoining areas have invoked a wave of compassion towards the victims across the border with India offering Pakistan every help possible and opened up the LoC despite the recent terror bombings in Delhi.
