Despite their winning streak being snapped in Ahmedabad, India continues to experiment and blood young players in the remaining two one-dayers against Sri Lanka, team officials said on Tuesday.
Now Dravid is being rested and Virendra Sehwag is going lead the side for the 6th One-dayer at Rajkot.
India rested star batsman Sachin Tendulkar and frontline bowlers Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh for Sunday’s fifth one-dayer in Ahmedabad after securing an unassailable 4-0 lead in the seven-match series and went on to lose the match comprehensively by 5 wickets.
Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga described India’s experimentation without Sachin, Harbhajan and Pathan as ‘cocky’. Writing in his column for the Press Trust of India, he remarked; “It took the flexibility theory to dangerous terrain. It was akin to pushing an automobile onto the road without gas. Besides, to us it appeared India were cocky.”
