In NCERT text books we have seen it all - from changing history by ‘ideological poisoning’ and their subsequent ‘detoxification’ drives depending upon the government of the day. But things have really turned from the bizarre to the comical now as the latest text book - Science and Technology for Class VII. It really makes some interesting and funny reading with the product of the authors’ figments of fanciful imaginations thrown in every now and then.
Consider this - ‘Male hormone testosterone promotes respiration while female reproductive hormones helps in blood circulation (no pun intended, so don’t confuse with menstrual cycles)’! It doesn’t stop just there. According to the book, insulin ‘promotes’ blood sugar in the body where as it does just the opposite by controlling blood sugar.
Dr Nalin Nag of Apollo hospital says; ‘There is a lot of inadequate, sporadic and wrong information in the book. When these kids grow up and are told otherwise, they wouldn’t know what to believe’.
The book is so filled with crap and errors that the teachers in Delhi are finding it increasingly difficult to use it as a guide for teaching.
