The BHU students’ initiative for rescuing 31 minor girls from the notorious red-light district - Madhuadihi, came as very refreshing news involving student activity in India. Despite the act of storming the brothels of Madhuadihi and intimidating people to rescue the girls without taking the city administration in confidence was illegal in puristical terms, the students should be applauded for the effort.
Who can deny the power of youth! Time and again we have seen this power being displayed by the students for the good of the society. However, of late we have been witnessing a somewhat disturbing trend in student activities, like students rampaging railway stations, trains, public places etc., whenever they travel in groups.
One wishes, only if the students unleashed their collective power towards positive and benevolent causes, like the one in Varanasi, they would find love and support from all sections of the society. The students of BHU can indeed show the way for the students in the rest of the country. BHU students, by the Waters of Varanasi, you did a pretty good job. Kudos!
