Pugilist Vijender Kumar beat Ecuador’s Carlos Gongora in the Middleweight category in Boxing to enter the semi-finals of the event. The win has guaranteed that India got at least yet another bronze. The win comes in the backdrop of two heartbreaking losses by medal hopefuls Akhil Kumar in the Bantamweight category and Jitender Kumar in the Flyweight category.
His win comes on a day when India’s Sushil Kumar won India a bronze in the 56kg freestyle wrestling.
Vijender now faces the formidable Cuban Emilio Correa Veyeux, Jr., PanAm Games gold medal winner in 2007 and son of Olympic champion Emilio Correa Sr.
