Balkans, my Balkans: Not in my wars, but in my sports...

I am an Indian, a native of the fascinating country that can be described as a melting point of many a civilization, many a culture, many an idea that might have ever occurred in the history of mankind. I am the Aryan son of soil, whose ancestors came from the Caspian, and whose mark of lineage is signed by the times, and the civilizations that followed.

Surname: Bhattacharya – from Aryabhatta, the great Aryan Mathematician, and Arya(n). This makes my pedigree complete and uncontested in the annals of Indian and Aryan history, or in the history books of the Nazis and the eugenics experimenters of Hitler’s sadistic labs, or his racist super ideologues. Even Joseph Arthur Comte de Gobineau, if alive today, would not be able to contest it.

Well, why only the Nazis? It can be anyone who tries to show himself to be superior to others. Why the hell should I sit in my cozy big flat in the heart of New Delhi, as a Brahmin supercaste, with the janeo (the sacred thread) hanging across my naked glowing body, and write something such as this that I have never attempted before?

The reason is simple, too simple. We have witnessed a great fight between a white and a black for a party nomination, a fight that spilled on the Internet and we saw many a battle fought on this electronic theatre. And, we stand to witness much more on the plains and the mountains and the arid landscapes where the Buffalo Soldier fought after being transported in from Africa.

Again, the reason is simple, too simple actually. You will know why. Every world power that is and that was and trying to be in the bracket of that still is, or at least will be that really is, is trying to grab a bite off the Balkan pie. Be it Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, so on and so forth...

Every one is fighting their proxy battles over them. A Serbian wins the ladies title at French Open beating a Russian, and immediately an American maverick latches on to the win citing as her own because of a recent vote where Serbians distanced from the Russians. A few weeks back, a Serbian was a much loathed guy for the Americans with the same mentality etc. Then comes the Croatian great win over Germany in today’s Euro 2008 game.

Balkans, my Balkans: Not in my wars, but in my sports...

Where do we stand now? Celebrate a country’s affiliation to a former Bloc or simply cherish the moment that a great sporting nation caused a much anticipated win over a weaker opponent, the victor’s or the vanquished’s soccer histories notwithstanding?

Balkans, my Balkans: Not in my wars, but in my sports...

I can’t write clearly today my friends. Those who understand would do so. I am sure of it. But the Balkans are no one’s pawn. Russia’s or USA’s. We must leave them to emerge as proud entities. They can settle their wars on the turf. And the world can sit back, sip a can of beer with roasted ribs and enjoy. Ultimately it will serve everyone’s purpose or for that matter no one’s in the years to come.

I had to write a long backgrounder, but it was necessary. The reason is again simple, too simple. We are not a superior race or for that matter inferior. We don’t belong to this camp or that… Superpowers can think whatever they like to. Should we really care?

As they say, the meek shall inherit the earth, and the meek is the not what you and I think they are.

My Balkans, fight the way you have, show that you are no less. This camp shall always root for you.

And for you all racists down there, remember I am superior to you. And for all nationalists out there, I belong to the camp that you see the sword wielding riders in the video below here.

Thank you for everything.

A situation is never good or bad, its the surrounding that makes any situation beautiful or ugly!

Great article, and a good job at cleaning the ugly stinkin’ trash surrounding the proud Balkans.

Thank you for this article.

I understand but you need not have sarcastically asserted your race superiority because it might send wrong signals to those who do not understand things well especially when someone claims that his English is not so good and another picks up the statement to launch a tirade. Though that does not matter you made the point well. It is really sad that the Balkan countries are being used as pawns as you mentioned by vested powers. This must stop.

There goes yet another Hindu radical terrorist meddling in alien affairs with his pseudo-secular pan-nationalistic views. Such men are dangerous. This is the very reason why Muslims continue to die in Indian pogroms choreographed by terrorists like him as it happened recently in Gujarat.

The song is highly offensive for Muslims in India and yet they continue playing it on TV, radio and all public places. Remove it immediately if you want to prove you are a secular site.

The site does not need to prove anything. The fact that you are able to post your comment on this site, and that your comment stays on to be read by millions of readers worldwide is more than enough to define and preserve the sanctity of this site.

And if I’m not mistaken, you belong to the MBC (mentally backward class), for whom Secularism means nothing more than just pleasing the minority.

So, its not this site, but you who needs to prove something.

To begin with it is a great write-up Jonty.

Saad I do not see him as a Hindu Radical Terrorist Meddling in Alien Affairs. Indeed, he has done very well to clear his stance before really discussing the issue. And as Aneez says, the fact that your comment has managed to hang on here pretty well proves the secularity of this site. You seriously need a break mate and on that note sadly it is people who think like you that create those racist limits. A human is a human at the end of a day but people like you fail to comprehend that fact.

How on earth do these morons like Saad post their nonsensical comments without understanding the essence of the whole thing make me really feel pity towards them! No wonder Pakistan is in such a pathetic state!
Excellent repartee, Aneez!Keep it going!

To Saad and Company:

Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who was presiding the Constituent Assembly on January 24, 1950, made the following statement which was also adopted as the final decision on the issue:

The composition consisting of words and music known as Jana Gana Mana is the National Anthem of India, subject to such alterations as the Government may authorise as occasion arises, and the song Vande Mataram, which has played a historic part in the struggle for Indian freedom, shall be honored equally with Jana Gana Mana and shall have equal status with it. (Applause) I hope this will satisfy members. (Constituent Assembly of India, Vol. XII, 24-1-1950)

This is Dr. Rajendra Prasad, first President of India, a secular country that resisted the temptation of becoming a Hindu Republic in the wake of the Islamic dismemberment of this great nation forming Pakistan.
