The Australian parliament is considering measures that would make current members and future members take a Breathalyzer test while in session so that they don’t drink and legislate. A frontbench, or spokesperson, member of one the leading parties in Australia’s parliament had to resign his post in the wake of a scandal where he roughed up a female colleague after a Christmas party where he had become intoxicated, and after several other officials in Australia have been busted out of their public offices for drinking related offences. The public seems to be receptive to the idea, as public transportation operators endorse the idea that those who create the laws that govern should do so soberly, as they have to operate trains and buses, in order for public safety. Now many politicians worldwide have enjoyed a few belts from time to time, and most of them responsibly, but all should take care. The rest of us can’t be drunk at the helm of our finances, and we can soberly look into payday loans if our budget goes temporarily dry.
